EIGHTY81 MARKS THREE YEARS OF CREATIVE ENTERPRISE SUPPORT AT EBRINGTON
Ebrington’s Eighty81 Creative Workspace is marking its third anniversary as the city’s premier co-working space for startup companies and small businesses in the creative industries. The anniversary also sees Blick Shared Studios successful completion of its management contract.
“It's been an amazing 3 years working within this wonderful creative city, we have been welcomed from the start and have enjoyed working with a variety of creative businesses of all sizes, making lifelong friends along the way and hope to be back in the City in some form in the future” said Christine James, co-founder of Blick Shared Studios & manager of Eighty81.
Social enterprise Blick Shared Studios took over the management of Eighty81, the former site of the Turner Prize, in 2015, creating a vibrant creative hub for 18 creative industries companies.
It has been a hugely successful 3 years. The building is at 98% capacity and has hosted over 70 events for over 1,000 attendees.
Eighty81 alumni companies have seen tremendous success. Elemental Software, a “technology for good” company, raised £300,000 in investment and were announced as the winners of INVENT 2016 Enterprise Software Category. Design company Blue Splat, were one of the building’s first members, before merging with Wurkhouse and securing a £1m investment.
More recently educational media company Makematic joined Eighty81 in May 2016, growing their team in the shared workspace before opening new offices in the city centre.
“Eighty81 was the perfect place for us to build our team in a collaborative and creative environment. It gave us flexibility when we needed it and plenty of opportunities to work together with other members. Our company has since grown to a team of 18 animators, producers, editors and writers developing content for some of the biggest brands in the world. Eighty81 was a big part of that journey” said Mark Nagurski, co-founder of MakeMatic.
Eighty81 continues to thrive with new members continually being welcomed and the management of the space passing to The Executive Office at the end of May.
